Did you know that in SF, you have to obtain a parking permit for your moving truck? and that it costs money? and that your application for a parking permit may be denied? And that the City of SF has a goal to tell you 5 days before you need the permit whether it will be approved? Yeah, I didn't.
I knew parking was an issue, and that we would probably have to have a permit of some kind for our moving truck. But I did not ever once think that I need to apply for a parking permit, and that it could be denied.
Basically, I think that I deserve a spa weekend after this move is over. Better yet, a spa weekend in Napa. Seriously- all my little blonde hairs will probably fall out if I don't get some pampering soon. #iaintlying #tiredofplanning #32ndbirthdaypresent?
Having your husband finish residency, having your sister get married out of the country, coordinating U Pack + movers, determining what stays in Texas and what goes to California, finding a place to live in SF, moving out of our house, closing on our first home, moving in with my parents, moving out of the storage unit, starting solids--all in 5 weeks, with a hubby furiously studying for his boards/working-- is downright exhausting. But again, its all part of this great adventure, right? I'm just tired. Really tired. Again, I feel the need to reference a glorious spa weekend in Napa right now. #sorrynotsorry
So one afternoon after finding out about this parking permit thing, I called the City of San Francisco's 311 line, and spoke to a very kind and helpful woman who obviously has kids too. {She even commented on how cute Luke sounded over the phone--he was practicing saying momma! #meltmyheart}. I explained our predicament -- that we are our moving truck was arriving in SF from Texas in about a week and I really needed to know if it would be able to park anywhere near our building, and what would have happen if our permit application was denied? Oh I really didn't even want to go there... but if the parking permit was not approved, what would we do? Drive around for days? Our little parking spot in our garage, 2.5 blocks away, surely wouldn't fit a 28 foot long truck. Additionally, I found out that our building is having some units remodeled and the contractor had already obtained an permit to park his truck in front of the building. #thenerve
I digress. So when I explained all this to the sweet lady from SF 311, she basically said that our permit would probably be denied. Oh geez. But then she told me to apply for like 4 permits on streets near by, and hope that one would get approved. She helped me plan on how to do it, and basically "game" the system. So, little SF 311 lady, Thank you!
So that night, we applied for 4 permits. And what do you know? 3 of the 4 got approved the very next day! YAY! So moral of the story: We can move in when our truck is delivered, we learned all about SF 311 and parking permits, and we can totally do this. But seriously though, that spa weekend would be oh-so nice :)
